All local foodies know the allure of Anne Hardee and award-winning Chef Adam Kirby’s go-to dining spot, Bistro 217. Lowcountry congratulates them for the success of Rustic Table, another Hardee/ Kirby venture now in its third year. Located in place of the former Pawleys Island Deli, Rustic Table’s revamped décor is what you’d expect from the name. Rich woods and earthy colors create a casual, relaxed atmosphere – it’s a cozy place to gather and enjoy made-fromscratch meals with ingredients fresh from local farms and fishermen.  It’s a “farm-to-table” kind of thing!

Southern comfort foods highlight all menus. Think meatloaf, fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, country fried steak, brisket sandwich, shrimp ‘n’ grits – hearty staples with “Adam” touches to mix things up.  A standard listing of tantalizing appetizers and soups are on all menus – lunch, supper and weekend brunch. Crispy fried chicken livers, beer battered onion rings, mini crab cakes and a warm brie and pear honey are a few app choices. The soups include Lowcountry Clam Chowder and Tomato Basil. Grilled Caesar with chicken, blackened shrimp on a wedge, Waldorf Salad and Blackened Mahi Mahi salad are on the lunch line-up.

Signature lunch items include Pawleys Island Ham Sandwich, with fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese, seared spiral ham and bacon on Texas toast. Two five-ounce patties of house-ground burger and sharp white cheddar cheese form the Smash Burger, topped with roasted onion jam and pickles. Special Sauce, fries and celery root slaw round out this hearty choice. Everyone needs The Comfy – crisp fried chicken on an open biscuit with sausage gravy and fries. Rustic’s BLTA is a clever mix of candied bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and avocado. Served on wholegrain bread with mayo, it comes with a side salad and tomato basil soup, too.

For supper, the blackened Mahi over dirty grits with sausage and crawfish, arugula, tomato, roasted corn salsa and lime brown butter is a show-stopping signature feature. You can’t go wrong with Bistro’s Seafood Pesto Pasta featuring shrimp, clams, mussels, spinach and tomatoes and basil pesto with fettucini and parmesan reggiano.  Southern sides like mac ‘n’ cheese, sweet tea collards, lima beans, Mom’s potato salad, deviled eggs with candied bacon and fried okra are Southern standards. There’s a kids’ menu with choices to please picky eaters and picky moms, too.

Rustic Table’s Saturday and Sunday brunches made Best Things South Carolina’s list of The 10 Best Brunch Places in SC. This recognition is another of many for Chef Adam Kirby, who was one of SC’s four 2017 Ambassador Chefs, an honor bestowed upon chefs who represent the very best of SC’s food scene by utilizing locally sourced ingredients and insisting upon the highest quality. Choose from BBQ Beef Brisket Nachos, Ms. Anne’s Salad with pecan encrusted flounder, spinach, toasted pecans, dried cherries, crumbled blue cheese, bacon, apples and Buffalo fried oysters or crispy fried chicken livers. Breakfast for the Soul offers two eggs, any style, grits, sausage and breakfast potatoes – the choices are reminiscent of those served at relaxed weekly family gatherings – familiar, filling, comforting. Adam’s Omelet brims with fresh local shrimp, spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese with a side of breakfast potatoes. A Belgian waffle topped with buttermilk-dipped chicken tenders served with bacon and Tobasco® maple syrup is downtown goodness!

An expanded bar, a rustic, yet modern atmosphere, ample comfort foods and a pair of seasoned pros behind the scene have meant huge success for Rustic Table. Give them a try, and tell them we sent you.
